The Hatching Eggs
In this photographic series, The Hatching Eggs, I combine images from my travel photographs using photomontage and photo manipulation to create a new imaginary world that no one has explored before. I started by photographing an egg with my DIY studio set, then searching for appropriate images from prior years' travel photographs. Trying to compose and fit them in to create a magical realm, this fantasy series has emerged. The eggshell reflects my limitations during the global epidemic, while the components inside the eggs represent my imaginative creation. This series currently consists of 3 images, the Pink, the Blue, and the Yellow Hatching Egg. The swan in the pink hatching egg is from Switzerland, while the lotus originates from Bali (Indonesia). The birds, the monkey, the basket, and the ocean in the blue hatching egg are from California, Bali (Indonesia), Vietnam, and the Caribbean, respectively. The elephant and sunflower in the yellow hatching egg are from Thailand, and the banyan tree is from Hawaii.
During the global pandemic of 2020, this series was created. It was motivated by my desire for adventure and my frustration at not being able to return to my native Thailand. I was stuck at home in New York, and I could not travel anywhere. My heart longed for a new adventure, but I must stay home and maintain a social distance to help flatten the curve. The restrictions and limitations we all encountered during the pandemic's quarantine phase drove me nuts. Still, they also forced me to seek inspiration and stay alive in my tiny New York apartment. Although I am unable to travel in the real world, no one can stop me from using my imagination. There, I build a new journey for myself, and I go to destinations no one else has been to.
Uncharted territories are bursting out from the cracks of the eggs. I'm wandering through the realm of my imagination.
